BLACK GOLD.... premiering soon
For long I have been wondering when Nigeria’s movie industry, Nollywood will get to the level of their counterparts all around the Western World. Although our movie industry is tagged as the third largest only after Hollywood and Bollywood, the rating has only been as regards mass in daily production of both meaningful and junk films. But last year marked a significant turn-around in Nigeria’s film industry as Nigerian movie producers remarkably started churning out film that were easily featured in the cinemas and these films also gained a wide audience in these cinemas while some of them even won enviable awards both in and out of the country.
I was gradually reaching a point of satisfaction that we are about giving Hollywood a fight for its money, until out of nowhere the news of an upcoming movie premiere came to my hearing. Popular Nollywood producer and director, Jetta Amata is once again putting of a spectacular Nigerian movie titled Black Gold. It is a movie that is focusing on the issues of the Niger-Delta in the best possible mode of narration. Usually in movies like Hotel Rwanda and Blood Diamond, Hollywood comes in to tell the story, but in this case, the story of the Niger Delta is being told and produced for the screen by a group of film makers from the Niger Delta.
It is believed that the movie is currently the most expensive to be written, produced and directed by individuals from this region not to mention it's all amazing star cast which is featuring some Hollywood and Nollywood’s best acts. Some of the acts that took part in the movie includes Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down), Vivica A. Fox (Independence Day, Kill Bill), Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs, Donnie Brasco), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight, The Expendables), Billy Zane (Titanic), Sarah Wayne Callies (Prison Break), Hakeem Kae-Kazim (Pirates of the Carribean, Hotel Rwanda), Razaaq Adoti (Black Hawk Down, Resident Evil: Apocalypse) and Mbong Amata (Inale, Amazing Grace).
The movie executive producers include Walter Wagbatsoma, Hosa Okunbo and Suzanne Delaurentiis. While the masterpiece was produced by Wilson Ebiye, Ori Ayonmike, Dede Mabiaku and Hakeem Kae-Kazim. It was written and directed by Jeta Amata, who is undoubtedly one of Nigeria’s best
The movie which is a political suspense drama was set to have been shot both in the Niger-Delta and on the Paramount Studio lot and other locations in Los Angeles, that included shutting down a busy Los Angeles street, a huge set complete with emergency response vehicles and helicopters and also shooting in the creeks of the Niger Delta. Wow, now that’s what I am talking about!
