Kogi state Governor's son weds in grand style
10.30am was the time I finally arrived at Kogi, after a stressful two hours ride from the country’s capital. I had earlier arrived Abuja at night on the eve of 27th of November and decided not to take the risk of travelling to Lokoja by night. Finally, I set off to the venue of the most anticipated wedding in Lokoja town. Along the way, you could see well armed security agents positioned at every junction and it was only a stranger that would ask what was going on in the town. Residents already knew that what was about to ensue was no other than the matrimony of the incumbent Kogi state Governor’s son- Alhaji Suleiman Ibrahim Idris and Zainab Mohammed Lawal- daughter of renowned business tycoon, Mohammed Lawal Adamu. Lokoja was lit agog as guests and important dignitaries trooped into the state house from far and wide to be a part of the revelry.
I arrived just in time to witness the last part of the eventful Nikkai session where the family of the bride handed her officially to the groom’s family amidst fervent prayers from both parents and other quarters. Afterwards everyone went towards the magnificently constructed tent for the reception that followed suit. The hilarious comedians, Alibaba and Basket Mouth clad in their expensive outfits were the hosts of the important day.
Convergence of the Crème de la crème
Glamour and glitz were the order of the day at the remarkably enviable reception held at the state Governor’s house. It witnessed the convergence of the crème de la crème of Nigeria’s political and business terrain as well as family, friends and other well wishers.
In attendance was the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan, who was the special guest of honour at the event, the Honorable Minister of Interior, Barrister Humphrey Aba; who ably represented President Goodluck, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Barrister Mohammed Bello Adoke; ably representing the Vice President, Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Lamido who was the chairman of the day.
Also notably present were top notch dignitaries such as P.D.P National Chairman; Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, Mrs. Helen David Mark, Muktar Shagari- Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mohammed Makarfi, Aliko Dangote, Hajia Bola Shagaya, Philips Salau- Deputy Governor Kogi state, Alhaji Musa Ahmadu, Mrs. Clara Chibuzor- Wife of Enugu state Governor, Dr Seidu Mohammed, Justice Olorunfemi Suleiman, Honorable Clarence Olafemi- Speaker Kogi state house of Assembly as well as all the 25 members of the Kogi state house of assembly. All the Kogi state’s representative at the Federal House of Reps, 16 commissioners of the state, 21 local government Chairmen and all the state’s traditional rulers were not left out of the occasion.
Wande Coal and 9ce took the guests on a frenzy
The guests were obviously caught unawares by the surprise announcement of Wande coal and 9ce as the guest artistes for the occasion. First to perform was the stunning-looking Wande Coal who did a marvelous job in ensuring that a whole lot of guests got to their feet to move and groove to his bumper to bumper tunes and other of his hit tracks.
But the more outstanding was 9ce who dished out his tracks to the ever-willing audience. It was glaring that 9ce had a huge fan-base in the state as virtually all present chorused his songs as he performed. He really got the couple and their friends going wild and it took the intervention of the D.J in the house to halt his performance before he was allowed to take a break amidst heavy applause.
The 7-tier cake carries a Golden cup
It was said that in the bid to finally get the love of his life, the groom could climb even Mount Everest and that was exactly what he did when he was told to go pick the golden cup placed on the top of the beautifully decorated 7-tier cream cake. Although it took the assistance of an automated mini-lift (a first initiative of Elizabeth R events) to get him up to the 7th tier, he still got the golden cup which he presented to his gorgeous bride as a sign of his undying love. It was a wonderful sight to behold. The couple was later assisted by the able First lady in cutting the cake.
The Dame’s Dance
After what can be termed as an amazing dance with the couple, the energetic friends and well wishers who graced the dance floor all took their seats for the First Lady to have her dance with the couple.
The Dame herself, who was elegantly clad in a typical Yoruba styled pink lace attire with a radiant look, took well calculated dance steps on the floor with the couple as she danced to the melodies of the Sir Shina Peter’s Ace track. And while all the paparazzi struggled to get a shot of the First lady, the guest all stood up to get a glimpse of what might be a once in a lifetime opportunity. She was supported by the wives of the governors present at the occasion while other dignitaries later joined her as they all joyously moved to the rhythm of the song. I am certain that the couple were absolutely delighted to have a dance with the First lady. Who wouldn’t be?
Elizabeth R did the trick
For every successful event, there is equally a successful planner. This is the case for Elizabeth R, the events management outfit that put up such an outstanding bash. The eye popping decorations, the posh stage, the gigantic screens, the adorable chandeliers, the exquisitely decorated cake, the mouthwatering delicacies and other countless effects were the result of hard-work by the resilient Ibidun Ighodalo, C.E.O of Elizabeth R Events and her resourceful team. For those of you that are not yet familiar with her, Ibidun Ituah-Ighodalo is one of the most successful and vibrant female entrepreneurs in Nigeria today. Over the years, she has planned major events in the country and because of the attention and detail she deploys to work, she tends to attract a strong clientele everywhere she goes. Kogi state is not a place for the minorities; Three Kogi state governors, including the incumbent promised the Kabba people a University three times they have failed us. There are no motorable roads, no water, and even the NTA Kabba is at the moment epileptic in its operations. Since Kogi state was created 20 years ago what exactly can be said to have been put in place in Kabba as a dividend from the state creation?
